There is nothing as constant as change, but it takes me longer to adjust the older I get. Discussion of FW to do or not to do is apparently gone...at 106 pages long...it did eat up a lot of room. I put my photo of the first (?) on a page where I thought it went...it went...so then I seen I was behind the times and tried again following the rules..or trying to...and scanned them into the site through my husband's computer. Two and half hours later and a big head ache (working with dh) mission accomplished. One & two blocks with one and two; three and four with proper set of photos; and five & six also in proper place. Have twenty one done, but will wait for proper place comes up before scanning in any more.

I am enjoying the project, loving everyone's blocks that are so unique and colorful, and their comments as well. I find myself paper piecing more and more, trying to get every block as square as possible. That Carol Doark 100 sheets of paper piecing stock has grown much smaller; may have to order more. Thanks to everyone for sharing their blocks and comments.

I'm having a big problem, I need someone who is familiar with Quilt Assistant to help me.

I drew the block for Bat Wings into Quilt Assistant. Now I have a great looking replica of the block. When I go to Print, I click on Paper Piecing.

First problem: In the drop down block next to Print: it says "All 4 Shapes" and there is no other option. In the design mode, I have clicked on each separate shape and it has shown an outline of that full shape, so there should be 9 shapes.

Second problem: I click on full preview and it comes up with a page of assorted diagonal, vertical and horizontal lines that are all part of the block, but none of them are connected. They're not in the right space (they don't look like my block).

Argghhh! What is going on? What did I do wrong? And how do I fix it?????

If this helps at all, I have twitchy fingers. While I'm trying to get to the spot to start a line on the edge of the square (because I used Honchey's measurements to know where to draw the lines) I sometimes twitch and click the right or left button. Would that affect how the block is perceived?)

Any sugestions?
There are bias edges so make sure the fabric is starched before you cut the batwing pieces.
You fold the length of both the wing section and the center block section--make a tiny crease on the center fold of the fabric- place a pin thru the crease on the wrong side of the batwing piece -bring the point of the pin to the crease on the rightside of the center block-push it thru- this is the center of both pieces. do not remove the pin- anchor same pin-now you can pin the rest of the seam as you normally would and sew.
Some of us are paper piecing our blocks, which also helps with difficult bias's. Good luck!

Quilting Nonnie...wish I could help you, but my program is EQ6. Are you positive that what groups you clicked on will work? One time I clicked on groups and when I went to print, it did something completely different, but that was because wha I'd clicked on wouldn't work with paper piecing...make sure that your drawn block has all the lines connecting properly? I know it's frustrating to have your program giving you trouble! Is there an 800 number you can call?

I'm wanting to get started - even have a couple small stacks of "matching" scraps for starters from my scrap & button sorting binge last week sitting on my cutting table - but am waiting patiently for the book which is in transit, for delivery sometime by 9/8. I've started my binder w/template pages & rotary instructions, follow the discussions, & get further behind - tho I am pretty fast at the piecing once I get started.

In the meantime am working on practicing my machine quilting on 7 guild charity quilts on my new-to-me Brother 1500S mid-arm on a New Joy Gold Standard Frame w/some hand-drawn pantographs under the stylus. My attempts are nowhere near as smooth & easy as it looks, but gotta start w/something & everything says PPP for the next year before I'll feel confident to put something I would like to treasure on the thing (&/or be ready to invest in a bigger & better machine/frame set-up - tho mine would definitely have to be used at the prices they run...)

Where is says, "4 shapes," is under paper piecing. There should actually be only 3 PP shapes but for some reason the program is putting one of the shapes separate

Here is how you fix that. Remove the coorect line and draw a line like this [ignore the big purple blob]

Draw you correct line again like this,

Now, remove the wrong line. Now when you hit PP full preview it should say 3 pieces. This is what you need to print because Bat Wings has to be made in 3 parts and then be sewn together.

As for the second problem, I am not sure what you mean. You may want to try checking all the boxes on the "Templates" page and see if that helps.

Good Luck!

I edited this so that the pictures have a big purple blob over them and the lines are not true, I hope this is not a copyright infringment as that is most certainly not my intent.

Do you have the rotary cutting instructions for 5& 6? thanks. I hope you will be doing this for all the blocks as I hate using templates, thanks again!!!

There ia a separate thread for the Rotary instructions every week. They are under the heading "Blocks of the month and Week" .
