What a treat these two were to sew! No PP last night. I'm having a hard time getting them straight on the scanning bed and then they are off after I crop the 1/4" seam allowances off. Oh well. I think the strings breed on my scanning bed and then birth when the warm light of the scanner hits them!

Your DGM was six foot eight inches? Is that a typo? OK I agree that it was fun to do these blocks. They we very straight forward and you did a beautiful job but I've never heard if a breeding screen. Made me laugh!

Thanks Ladies ... some pretty pretties for me, before off to bed!

What an interesting read this thread was ... from quilting, to wildlife to who the giants and pygmies are of this group .... and more!

CWD ... deer herds are monitored here for this. I don't think it's as much concern as it was a few years ago.

And while we're talking about the wildlife damage to crops ... let us not forget our national bird, the Canada Goose ... surely some must go south? Though with corn here to eat all winter long, more and more of them stay and continue to eat (and destroy!).

How about coyotes? Not for food, though dreaded for their kill instinct. Many live in the bushes/valleys. I often hear them at night or early morn.

Hunters are getting antsy here. Deer hunting doesn't start til November for the better part, unless you are way north. Moose hunting will have started for those that head northwards and gradually it will work to it's more southern areas, though not so far south as here.

As kids we regularly had deer and moose as my Grandfather went hunting. I think what I enjoyed the most was the bear meat we got one year. ITA with OKSGlad that deer meat isn't so gamey anymore ... never thought about the extra feed! The last few years that I had deer meat to cook, I tended to just do the same as beef ... and even often barbecued it. One of our ways of cooking venison was with tomato juice instead of the vinegar ... Mom did it once, and the pickled smell in the house, turned us all off! Never again!

We have a 'coyote' farm in the neighborhood...like the pheasant farms...that grow them for people to pay to come shoot them...very noisy at night and early morning hours. Moose in its second season in Alaska has eaten pine needles and beats out dried beans for 'gas' on the tummy.

Fabric here has risen in price $$...wow!! So I am limited to sales if I buy anything. Gas prices has fewer cars on the road here. Did the main run for groceries yesterday for the month and some for next month...so less traveling for us while gas is so high. More ordering items (what we can) internet to save on gas.

Seriously QNS, a coyote hunt farm? Coyotes moved into the area about 20 years ago and the yearly hunt by locals doesn't make a dent in their population. They have no predators above them in the food chain so their numbers grow. At night they start to howl on the ridge to the SW then in a clockwise rotation the song is picked up all around in our little valley. It sets the Border Collies off first with a couple of barks and then an answering howl. Ususally coyotes quiet down after that.
Haven't had a FART lately (well not this kind!
) so not sure what fabric is doing. Do know that in the last 6 months 3 shops have closed or moved closer to larger retail centers. Will miss them, but means I will just stop at the locals more often.

YIKES!!! a dedicated coyote farm? Like OKSGlad, they are just wild predators here ... small and large animals beware and humans are hesitant. Hunting is allowed, though there are so many rules and exclusion areas that it;s minimal. And besides, hard to get ahead of the population! The best friend is oft said to be disease that kills them out.

The howling is something else, and as you said, how it starts and goes around. I am often amazed how it grows in numbers and volume. Then all of a sudden it stops, dead, as though the conductor dropped his baton to signal!!

OKSGlad ... beware about those FARTs and your DGKs!!! I wonder if JanRN's face has come back to a normal flesh tone yet?
