For each of my foundation blocks I have taken the measurements from a "proper" block, so then (if it worked out O.K.) I have it ready to use.

I hope this explains the difference. Knowing that I am a slow worker and being late getting started, I was trying to save a bit of time with the foundations.

Sorry if I created any confusion.

Thanks Deecee and Lara for clearing this up. I did not go
to the actual blocks themselves. I'm so glad I asked,
because I don't want to waste time and fabric doing practice
blocks, but would rather make the actual foundation block that will be used in the blocks themselves. Maybe if I had read further, I would have figured it out :). Anyway, thanks
for the explanation.

I created a new topic under BOM's to ask this question,
but then it occurred to me that I should ask it under this
topic first.

I was wondering if any QB members that live in the
Dallas/FT. Worth area are working on this BOM. If so,
would you PM me.
Thanks,
Marcia in Crowley

I made up this guide when I was starting to make my foundations. It might be helpful to all of you so we know which blocks are from which foundations:

I have almost finished hand sewing my first applique block and was wondering if the majority were hand or machine sewing. If someone has machine stitched, could they please post a pic?

Also I am wondering whether to sew each applique layer completely down individually or is it sufficient to only sew what is visible of each layer when all layers are in place. I hope that doesn't sound too confusing.

Linda did a really nice job getting this info put together to share with us,. Thanks Linda!

I printed it out and stuck it in the front of my book.

Can hardly wait to start making and posting a real block tomorrow. I want to see them all!

hugs, Jupiter

OK - here is my block #1 - Laura's Cathedral Window. I hand stitched it. The directions said to glue everything down before stitching the applique, so that is what I did - I only stitched what was visible and then I tacked the corners so it wouldn't flop around. I think next time I will stitch down each layer before gluing the next. I don't think it really matters though, because I plan to sash and quilt these blocks into a wall hanging and that will keep them secure.

Anyway, this went together much easier than I thought it would - although it was time consuming for a 6 inch block! I had fun and I'm pleased with how it came out!

Thanks, Linda for sharing the chart. It will be very helpful.

Lara, your block is lovely! Have you removed the paper yet? That part of the process worries me.

Thanks Judy! Yes, I soaked the block in warm water and the paper slid right out before the block had a chance to dry. All of my glue dissolved within minutes (and I used a lot of glue!).
