Thanks everyone. And Linda, you guessed my middle row....a little tideland and forest. The bottom is the ocean, the thin line is a reef and the heron is standing in a patch of calm water. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm thinking about my next landscape quilt. So fun.

Elisabrat - glad you're feeling better but don't overdue it. Take care.

I think perhaps I have always looked at quilting as.. painting with fabric. Instead of a traditional painting we are using fabric to paint our pictures for us. I go into the quilt store and squint at the fabric.. you see colors not patterns. textures help but mostly I see.. color. then I go from there. helps I am half blind lol ok not totally half blind but cant see worth crud without my glasses. can see.. color however. and you make a quilt right? its little patterns of this and that but across the room? its blue and blacks and oh golds.. its not patterns you see first. if you use this thought process when your making your quilt not matter traditional or impressionistic like these.. you are painting with colors. tada and that is all you need to know to do it right. of course no quilt police here ( I sure hope so!) and therefore its all good. so join our fun and share what you are trying. not everything works. ask me how I know but if you don't try it how will you ever know or be good at it. I know I can do a traditional quilt just fine. I work hard and I can make a decent block I am not ashamed to share. but.. this to me pushes my mind. it pushes creativity. AND YOU ALL HAVE IT! why not try it!! I am not great, I am learning and well that is what quilting is to me. a continuing learning experience. enjoy it.

You are all doing such beautiful work...I love the paper piecing and the Australian scene is totally amazing. I so enjoy seeing everyone's work and your posts are so inspirational. I'm happy to be participating even though I am way behind many of you. I wanted to let you see that I am progressing on my sky...I plan to have the sky completed and the water well on it's way before the week's through.
Besides starting late, I have other excuses: We went to San Antonio last week for my son's graduation from AF basic training (which I wouldn't have missed for the world, but I dreamed of this project every moment we weren't with him) and then when I got back, my wonderful husband said that I couldn't just pull the string blocks I had on my design board down...I had to put them together...he wasn't going to let me create yet another UFO...man, I love that guy...but I was so itching to start this one...so I started sewing my RSTs between each row of sashing as my "leaders" and "enders"...2 birds...1 stone.
Anyway, below are a few pictures of where I am...unfortunately, I am dissatisfied with some of the harsher transitions...so I'm off to the fabric store (something I really was trying to avoid). Still, my LQS offers a free yard every quarter to club members and that's this month...so I won't have to spend much. I love the sky on the right side and the hills on the left...the sun and rays still need work...but I'm getting close.

ok now I get TWO of the same messages at the bottom of this thread! how the heck is that happening??? same messages over and over each time I sign in. way to weird!

I love the ufo your working on.. the greens and the pinks? its really pretty but alas looks like tons of work all those half square triangles. I am worn out just admiring them

the last piece of Australian ground is really good. another soft curving seam. must be easier than I imagined OR its just a show piece of someone who really knows how to quilt. love it.

I am off to the kitchen now, the children have gone shooting and its a good two hours of me time. beef jerky is in the machine (again) and I have some time to just work on something for me. I am three blocks half way done. going to finish the fourth half way then start cutting sand. I have five colors of beige and cream sandy colored fabrics to use . thinking I will do the finish it even with half block rectangles to fit then do rows of thinner strips for sand. not as long as the top half but again. we will see. change my mind by the hour lol. promise pics at the end of the week should have the entire row done! crossing fingers and toes. I know I can. I hope. three rows in two months is grand for me these days. I will do it!

I'm still thinking! Will do small snowball blocks for the pretty trees that are blooming now. Not sure about sky.
    Any experts on Misty Fuse?

So, I usually do a collage. Notice the menu in the top piece for Cheyenne. I printed this from the website of the restaurant where she worked.
