My DH and I went on a hike in the mountains last week, and some of the trail was over large rock outcroppings, and, you guessed it, I fell straight down on my knees on the rock. :cry: Luckily I didn't break anything. However, I peeled about a silver dollars worth of skin off of one knee, which is now starting to scab over. I'd like to put some kind of lotion or something on it to keep the area supple enough that the healing won't draw the skin up too tightly, and so the scar may be less noticeable. Do any of you ladies or gentlemen have any helpful hints to offer of what I should use?

I never had kids, so haven't been through the "skin your knees" thing before. :lol:

I have a scar across my neck, I call it my second smile - or I should say will call it ... I tried using Vitamen E cream, which worked but saw a TV commercial recommending Bio-oil - an oil you put on twice daily and within 4 months the scar will be gone or less noticeable. Well, when we went to the US in April, I bought some, $11.00 for a 60 ml bottle at Walmart - been using it since. The scar - I can see - but most people do not. I know it works. it contains PurCellin Oil - what they call a "break through ingredient. I use it twice a day - morning and night - been using it since April of this year, and still have more than 3/4's of the bottle left - use very little. The scar is from an operation I had at the beginning of February, which goes across my neck - ear to ear. Need more info - just ask but I love this product. They have a web site -www.bio-oil.com

Olive oil but i would let it heal more before you start applying it.

glad you didn't break anything, be careful now when you hike, I use neosporin and it will heal up fast

Massage and a good vitamin e oil product :D:D:D
The massage helps break up the scar tissue/keep it from forming.

I've been using the Neosporin, at the recommendation of the doc, since it was such an open wound. It seems to be working, but I didn't know if it would help with the suppleness of the healing or not. I'm almost unable to bend at the knee now.

My DH says I need to be careful too. The last time I fell I hit my HEAD on a rock. And the time after that there was a rattlesnake blocking the trail. Maybe I should stick to embroidery and quilting, huh?

There bandages that help prevent scaring, I got mine at Target about two years ago. I used them on two severe lacerations on my arm and they healed with just a faint scar.

when it's all healed, if you're worried about the scar any kind of ointment will work to help smooth the scar out. I had surgery on my face to remove a Basal Cell skin cancer and had a scar from below my eye over to my ear and down my neck. the Doctor told me to use Bactracin ointment first, then even Vaseline would do fine. it's the massasaging over the scar that does the trick.
and yrs and yrs ago i was told to not use Neosporin due to many people getting allergic rashes taht were hard to get rid of.
