I have been busy cleaning our closets. I got everthing washed up and delivered the clothes and purses to a local nursing home.

The lady told me thanks and wish that more people would donate to the nursing homes. She was so excited and they will get some nice things for Christmas.

I did this last year also.

That is so kind of you! I used to work in a nursing home and you would be amazed at how little in the way of clothing some residents had. If their clothing was washed at the facility, it became worn out very quickly due to the commercial washing machine/dryers. New clothes looked old very fast.

Sometimes when a resident would pass away, their family would donate their clothes and another needy resident would get them.

Darnit, I SHOULD have thought of this before. My late DH spent 3 years in a local nursing home, and when he died I just gave his clothes to it and never, ever thought of giving any more.

STUPID of me, now that I think of it. I was so devastated at losing him that I never wanted to see that place again.
Now I remember how well giving large cuddly teddy bears to the old men, and dressed and blanketed baby dolls to whomever wanted them, sure showed me how much they loved them. After receiving permission, I gave them out and one old lady accepted a doll, I reached over to pull down the blanket to show her the cute little face, and she started screaming that I was trying to kidnap her baby. One of the workers told me that she'd actually had a baby kidnapped briefly in her youth. And later said that the old lady refused to part with the doll, even had to undress it and take it into the bath with her, so it would not be kidnapped.
I'll try to find some more to take there, thanks for the reminder.
And the clothes should be loose and comfy, some of them are wheelchair bound and some are ambulatory so need regular clothing. Everything should be washable and easy to put on and take off.

Yes they need the clothes! It made me feel so good. I am going to start making some walker bags also for them.

I got everything all washed up and delivered the bags today!

I was telling my mom and she is going to go thru her clothes, dads and give them to me so I can donate to the nursing homes.

Also she has some purses that she doesn't want and you know the ladies at the nursing home loves purses.

I am so happy!

I never thought about donating purses. I have donated shoes, gowns, clothes, and many a many bags for Christmas.

Glad you did this and posted it so others would think about it. When my dear MIL was in a nursing home I realized how many of their residents needed more clothing and undergarments, too. They even collected "formal" type dresses and suits and had a "Senior Prom" every year - the ladies just loved to get all fancied - up!! Hadn't thought about purses, but they sure like to carry their "stuff" with them. I take bage of clean and repaired (if needed) clothing to our local nursing home instead of Goodwill or Salvation Army anymore.

Great idea. There are may residents who only have a days clothes and no visitors so the homes are always in need of clothes donations. How fun. YOu are such a wonderful soul, not only on the board but in life. Thanks for giving us all the idea again.
