I have been having trouble with my back and feet for years. My latest diagnosis is nerve damage and neuropathy. I assume my current balance problems are related. Have any of you tried to ride a bicycle with it? Or is that a thing of the past? I have taken out a bike several times lately, but I have the feeling that it's not a good idea and have returned it to its parking place. I dislike the thought of this controlling my life, but I also dislike the thought of falling off my bicycle. Any experiences you can share?

I have neuropathy and severe balance problems. My hands and feet both lack feeling. Riding a bike is probably okay, walking is more of a problem for me.

My dh also has neuropathy and has no problem riding a bike.

    Good luck.

    good morming:

I too have neuropathy and have had for thirteen years, in my feet. The pain has just been excruating. However, in this past month, I have found a new neurogolist and he has put me on Gabapentin (sp) and I am even afraid to say my pain level has improved greatly. I still have to have more testing done but I finally feel there is hope. I had been on that horrible Vicadin for pain and besides being addicting I got very, very little relief. I hope and pray for you that your doctor will try this medicine for you. If you would like more information you can send me a pm and I will be happy to reply.

Best wishes in your pain relief.

I have back problems and neuropathy and I can't ride a bike BUT I've always had a hard time why because of vision problems! Have your eyes checked first. Then buy a good helmet and go for small rides! Good luck !

My Mom has neuropathy and rides a stationary bike daily, of course she doesn't have to worry too much about balance with a stationary bike. You said you "assume your current balance issues are related." The word assume has me concerned. My mother doesn't seem to have balance issues related to her neuropathy, but levels of it may differ. I think you should wait til you see your Doctor and make sure you know what is the cause of your balance issue just to be safe. I am glad to hear you don't want your neuropathy to limit your life, and I hope that you will be able to bike ride!

God gave women a kind of sixth sense so go with your gut feeling until you have the balance problem resolved. Then when you're feeling back to your old self, balance wise, ride like the wind!

The Wii games that use the balance board are supposed to be good for older people to improve their balance. Worth a try.
