Default Need advice - more sewing than quilting related

My daughter has asked that I make her a bag for the inside seat of her moped. It is a deep space and she keeps losing things. I "borrowed" a bag that my neighbors son has on his power wheels jeep and modified it by adding the grommets so that we can hook it inside of her seat. My question is would anyone know the name of the mesh fabric and also the binding material that is used. I was going to see if it would be available at my local Joanns which I doubt I will be able to find. The binding looks to me like almost an upholstery or drapery type material. I have everything else that is needed in my stash which surprised me. Of course she wants her bag to be anything but "basic black" I told her to put stickers on it to bling it up, she was not amused.

Thanks for the help!!

Mindy

Netting is a cargo net fabric it comes 10 in wide when the holes are open: http://www.seattlefabrics.com/mesh.html#Cargo_Netting or you can go with the poly mesh for smaller holes.

I use usually a Poly/Cotton duck fabric (need the weight) for making the bindings and inserting the grommets or other fasteners.

I've seen a finer mesh fabric at Joanne's and Hancock Fabrics. I think it is intended for sport jerseys and shorts. A lot like football jerseys are made of. Check in the section where they have swimsuit materials. Just a guess.

Why not just use prettier fabric? Maybe a bright fabric on one side and clear vinyl on the other so she can see what's in it. I have a storage space under my scooter seat, too, and there is really no reason to have to use a mesh. You could even make several small bags for different things. I made a fabric and clear plastic pouch for my insurance and registration cards. They are very easy to find and protected.

If you can't find the fabric new, you might try a thrift store and get a men's sport t shirt made of the mesh. Always something we can do for our kids that stretches our thinking.
