I hardly know what to say chris. I have had first hand experiance with this lately with my faorite brother. It took him 4 months to find a new job. He looked almost every day and applied to more places than I thought was in business here. Finally, he found a job that he never thought he could do. I had to give him a computer to pull him into the twentyth century. He mastered it and has used it to find a job on-line. Just last week. He goes to school three nights a week to get his certification in diagnostics for four wheel suspension. (He paid for the class himself to get the job) The point is he has made tons of contacts while in the class. Those teachers know everyone in town.
He is going to continue and get his bachelor's in engineering on line after that. (I have to mention here he is not young.) But, he always wanted to do this. I don't think he would be doing this except that losing his job made him put his head to the wind and re-think what he wanted to do. I know you will find just the right job for you. By your time piece quilt and lap-top bag I would say in the art industry. Or something detail oriented that you could use your hands to do. I will remember you in my prayers, chris. I am very glad you let us know. And I hope you find a job soon. |
My DH and I were talking about what your company did to you. He was VERY involved with his union, and he agreed that your company can't legally let you go and hire someone to replace you at a lower wage. You should call the Better Bus Bureau at the very least. Perhaps the local DA.

sorry to hear this. Looking into the upholstery thingy sounds good though. Your probably right, about not worth trying to put up a fight with old boss. Sometimes yes, sometimes no. It ain't right, but you know what's best. Hang in, and hope you find something you like doing, that you can live with. :)

Chris, I'm so sorry to hear that. Just after I went on disability/retirement, the company I worked for started doing the same thing. Hey, maybe you'll wind up with a better job. I'm sure you are talented at whatever you do. The best of luck!

I've had potential employers call asking "what's wrong with this person that they've been unemployed for 4 months?" Another great place to find employment opportunities is to do volunteer work. Volunteer work gets your foot in the door of a company or organization and it also puts you in a position for those who can hire you to see that you are a good worker as an unpaid worker so they can only imagine who effective you would be as a paid employee. Volunteer work also looks great on a resume. Good luck to you in your job search. Something will come up that will be a perfect fit for you. If not perfect, take the job then keep looking for the perfect job....Oh! changing jobs frequently after a month or two begins to look a bit dicey on a resume so be selective in your job changes so you can always indicate reason for leaving this job? "higher wages,more and better hours, more responsibility, my skills and interests complimented the new position" ...etc., etc." Good luck~! |

Sorry to read about this. There has been great advice given on here.
One can't always fight the system. In some states, a company can let you go "at will". They don't have to have a reason. Think positive and be encouraged by the opportunity to find something you enjoy! GOOD LUCK. |
