Sorry I am no help. I never liked islands in the kitchen - it was something extra to run around while cooking or cleaning. But that is just me. I love to see large kitchens, just don't want to maintain one.

I had an island in my kitchen before we moved here. This kitchen has a different configuration. I wanted my island free of anything. No sink, no cooktop, etc. It was a gathering and prep place. I had the sink in front of a window and stove on other side. wasn't exactly the triangle recommended but worked for us for over 20 years.

My sink and dishwasher are in the island. I like it that way because it helps when several people are in the kitchen so one can be working at the island and one/others over by the cooktop. Of course, we have a large dog who is lurking/laying in the middle that we have to circle - she trained us properly lol!

I have an island that does not have a sink, as I wanted a large flat surface. If I had it to do over again, I would have put a small prep sink with garbage disposal in the island -- if it could be on a different side of the island from the main sink and work triangle. That would have allowed a second person to prep veggies for me without getting in my way as I cook. I would have done the sink in such a way that I could place a cut-to-fit wooden board on top of the sink to create a flat surface all-over. The wooden board could double as a cutting board too.
If you are putting in only one sink, then I would like Kathy T's setup as long as the sink and dishwasher are out of the path of the refrigerator and stove.

I decided for an island but against a sink in it. It is a large slab of plain granite in the middle of the kitchen and it is the gathering place. We use our island to make things on for baking and or chopping. We also stage our meals on the island and people serve themselves off of the island by walking by it. It is super easy to clean and wipe up. There is nothing sticking up or out of the island and nothing to obstruct the view. I originally wanted a bakers table and this has well filled the need plus it has enclosed storage and electrical outlets incase I want to use the kitchen aid mixer, slow cooker or rice cooker on the island. Oh my kitchen is very large. If I had no island it would be odd. If a cook top or sink would be there in my house it would end up being a big mess in the middle of the kitchen, kind of an unwanted center piece.

I didn't put a sink or stove on our island. I wanted a nice big surface for quilt sandwiching or buffets or baking. It's been 15 years here, and I wouldn't change it. My daughter's had either a sink or a stovetop in both of her islands, and I don't like the limited workspace around these things when I'm baking or cooking there.

It depends on if the room is separated from other rooms. My son has his sink in the island facing the family room but it has a raised bar area with stools so the sink isn't visible from the family room.
