Barnbum, I am a nurse too, and I hate gloves, so I usually don't wear them, but wash my hands even more. I swear by gold bond. And it doesn't leave my hands greasy.
Your hands will be more prone to drying out and cracking if you use those hand sanitizers, 'cause they have alcohol and are very drying. If your hands get really bad, before you go to bed, slather your hands heavily with cream and put on some cotton gloves. By morning, your hands will be much better.
Good luck!

I've been using the Bee Bar cream and my hands have never looked better. Usually, even when I consider them fine, the palms are flaky, but right now--everything is smooth except for the calluses!! Amazing!!! Thank you, Athomesewing!!! :D :D
Hand sanitizers are everywhere now at school, but I don't use them since I always have access to soap and water. I know it's cold water from the horse buckets and chalk from school that contribute to this. Oh--and dishes. If my hands get better, Mark won't volunteer to do dishes as often! Oh no!!
