I think that he did really die and that it was his sneaky little wife. But I bet that Bree will get the blame as she shot the gun into the air just before Paul got shot.

Definitely his wife. It's got to be. She finally realized what a dipstick he is and how he really doesn't care for anyone but himself.
But, does she know how to fire a rifle? It would have to be a rifle shot to be that accurate to get him right in the heart. I don't think a handgun would have that accuracy at a distance. Where would have she gotten the gun?

First thought, his wife. Seconfd thought, Bree. BUT! I bet it was the guy that sold him all those houses in the first place, and then ended selling his own to him and having everyone hate him.
