You could cut it in squares like you would for a rag quilt. Use scrap pieces of batting (or 2) in the middle instead of one with another flannel square on the bottom. Or instead of squares cut the flannel in strips say 6" x 24"(however wide you need it) and make a runner with 6 to 10 of these strips--however long you need it.

I made one of these and it turned out awesome. Janet

My main concern here with the rug/bathmat is that in no way do I want it to look in any way country. That eliminates a hooked rug, a crocheted rug or the method similar to making a bowl. I was thinking that perhaps something close to slipcovering an older, wrong colored bathmat might work. No one has said anything about the non-slip paint. I HAVE used that before on the back of latched rugs. It does wash in the washer just fine. It is similar to a very thick liquid rubber(like a truck bed liner), dries to a flexible rubber non-slip finish. The one I used came in the color grey. I just can't imagine that any kind of batting would be thick enough to give a good feel under your feel when you stepped out of the shower. I want it to feel plush.

I have had no experience with the non slip paint. If it works as well as you say it does go for it. As for batting I would layer 2 or 3 pieces to help you get the cushy feel. A thick poly you buy by the yard at Joann's or Hancock's would work as well, but wouldn't have the absorbancy the cotton battings would.

Is there any place that sells a memory foam product?

I think you would make life easier for yourself if you looked around for a nice, cushy rug ready made.

That's probably the best advice yet.

If you could find a mat you like in one of your colors, you might be able to use your fabric to make fringe on the ends. I recently purchased a bath set that had a small fabric motif appliqued in a couple of spots over the fuzzy surface. Or---bind the edge of a ready-made mat in your coordinates. Lowes has a super soft, thick foam back, non-skid bathmat in stock right now. It's wonderful underfoot. (The 'country' look is more about color choices than the method IMHO BTW LOL.)

At Houston they made minky rugs stitched to artist canvas. Then put nonslip on the bottom. Very plush and nice! Please post when you are done! Good luck.
