I would use multiple colors in the hope it would always be color appropriate to display on her bed, but that is just me.

All batiks look good together, more about what design you pick. But, if you want it to be a complete surprise and you know her favorite color is blue, I would probably stay within the 'cool' colors. This would still allow for the full range of blues, purples, greens and perhaps some neutrals pieces.
