Hope I can get a few suggestions here regarding a quilt I intend to make. Our quilt club makes quilts for our wounded soldiers and sends them to the hospital in Germany where most of them are sent. We make them out of patriotic fabrics for the most part. I have several co-ordinating fabrics with the red, white, and blues. One of them is the wide red and white stripe like our flag has. I want to use this in the quilt, but just don't know of a good pattern that would make use of this. The other fabrics are red with white stars and blue with white stars. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You could use it as the center in an attic window.
You could cut a large triangle from the large stripe and make the other triangle half from random strips of the other fabrics.
Square in a square might work, as would triple rail fence.

That's a great cause you are helping with.

I think the Warm Wishes quilt pattern would be great for this. It's simple and shows off the fabric to the best advantage. The pattern is free.

I spent 7 years working at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center so this is very near and dear to my heart. I have attached 3 files. The last 2 are patterns that are reproductions of civil war quilts. I have not made any of these. These are just patterns that I have just collected in my web searches. I am new at this. I have only made one table topper, and I am currently in the middle of a small quilt right now, so I am real new at this. I don't really know what I am doing, just been doing a lot of reading and teaching myself as I go. However, when I was a little girl my mother used to make quilts, but she used to piece and quilt everything by hand.

I wish I could post pictures, but I must admit, I really don't know how to do that.
I'll try to describe the fabrics.....my largest piece is a red, white, and blue stripe (stripes are about one inch wide each) with white stars on the blue stripe. The next large piece is just red and white stripe....same size of stripe. Then a have smaller pieces of red with a small whte star print, and a blue that is the same. They are all color co-ordinated. Maybe this helps. I really appreciate all the suggestions so far.....I'm checking them all out. This is a great group of quilters....so much knowledge and input. Love it!!

That would make a good border. I love stripes in borders.
