I think everyone has done that before. I have done it several times. Do not feel dumb because that is just part of the process. I have even cut myself with the scissors and I poke myself all the time with the seam ripper.

I cut my finger making a quilt for my husband. I was just learning to sew. It did cut a small chunck out and I did have to go and have 4 stitches and I really felt dumb around all my quilting buddies, but I quilt like crazy now and I'm way more careful.

I did years ago. It was like I was peeling carrots and took off a slice of my finger. It wouldn't stop bleeding, my children were little but there was nothing to stitch so I didn't think a trip to the Emergency Room would do much good. I called my dentist to ask him if somebody had a cut gum, what would he do. He said there is a medicine to put on to stop the bleeding. I went to see him and came out with a heavily bandaged finger that stopped bleeding. Better than the ER.

Yes. Five stiches a year and a half ago and still tender. A little
reluctant to use them now even though I have the gloves to
wear. If small project like the BOM just mark and cut with a
scissors, just as fast and accurate.

I never did that . . . but I did do something much dumber. I had put my fabric in to start sewing and it bunched up under the needle. I stuck my fingers under there to pull it out and forgot to take my foot off the pedal. You guessed it!! I put the sewing machine needle straight through the top of my fingernail, clear all the way through my finger and the needle and thread came out the other side. Of course I was home alone and freaked out. I had to yank the thread out of my finger and it hurt like heck. My finger was sore for weeks. We all just need to be careful. I have been sewing 30 years and had never done that before. But I got careless and got hurt.
