Do you backstitch when doing your blocks?

When piecing?? No. VERY rarely. I continuous chain as many pieces as I can. Goes faster!

Sometimes I don't really pay attention, and I backstitch. I sew clothing for myself, and it's a habit.

If I know that the seam I'm making will be stitched into another seam, then I don't backstitch. If the seam will be left open or I will be working with the block a lot before it's locked into another seam, I may backstitch. I usually chain stitch as Zebra2 does.

If I do I WILL have to remove that seam. It is a proven fact!

I do toward the outside, when I'm connecting sashing. When things start getting heavy, un-backstitched seams seem to get loose on me!

My very very first quilt...I cut 2" squares and stitched them together INDIVIDUALLY and back stitched EVERY SINGLE ONE. :shock:

I do the outside, too. If a block is going to sit around for a while, I don't want them coming undone. Also, as a new longarmer, I'm finding that the VERY outside seams SHOULD be backstitched. I've taken tops in and re-sewn so they wouldn't pull apart when I put them on the machine.

Before I send a quilt to the LAer I stay stitch around the entire quilt. Saved her alot of headaches. Now that I'm doing my own I will continue doing that.

I do when I'm paper piecing and I stay stitch around the outside edge of my paper pieced blocks. I was a dress maker long before I was a quilter.
