Hi everyone -

I took my crazy quilt to a local quilter for a simple meander pattern. Because the blocks are top stitched (meant to ravel and eventually the edges will roll over), the quilter covered the top of the quilt with tissue paper so her machine wouldn't get caught on the edges of the blocks. Now I am stuck with removing the tissue paper - and the bigger pieces are a pain in the neck enough, but also there are bits stuck under the quilting itself. I have resorted to picking these out with tweezers and it is taking forever.

Has anyone else run into this issue? And does anyone know of an alternative way this could have been quilted without the tissue paper? I have another one I'm making (a Christmas motif) and am wondering if I could avoid this hassle next time.

I think she should have told you of her intent to use tissue paper , and what it would mean to you , as far as getting out the bits of paper.
I am clueless as to why it was used in the first place. I suppose I would have to have seen the top , can you post a photo?

maybe she could of quilted it upside down with the backing up

Someone once suggested that if you rub a damp/wet Q-tip along the thread stitches the paper will come up easier. As to another way to quilt on the LA, as someone suggested--quilt it upside down. The top loaded as the back.

Is the quilt something you can wash to dissolve the tissue paper?
