How much fabric will be need
to make 200 half square triangles finished at 3 inches? I have the "GO" die (#55009) but I do not know to calculate how much fabric I need to buy. Thanks in advance for your help.

You would need to cut 4" strips into 4" squares, and trim the hsts to 3 1/2",
so I estimate:- 10 squares per 40" strip (W.O.F)
200 sqs needs 20 strips which is 80" of fabric.
If you use two colours - or fabrics - then 40" of each.
Hope I've helped.

Gay, thank you for responding to my post. The information you provide is exactly what I need. I appreciate you taking the time to calculate this for me and also for providing me with the formula so I will be able to make the calculation for my self in the future.
Have a blessed day.

Also, on the Go cutters, you need to cut on the length of the grain, not the width of the grain. If you cut on the width of the fabric, it will stretch and the cut will not be accurate. But, if you are planning to make the HSTs larger and cut them down, it won't matter. It shouldn't make much difference in the amount of fabric needed, though.
To some degree, that defeats the purpose of the machine. It is supposed to cut accurately, so that you don't have to square up the HSTs.
If it were me, I would add 15 to 20 percent to the estimate, just to make sure I have enough. 80 inches equals about 2 1/4 yards. If you add 20 percent, it's 2 2/3 yards. Depending on what I was paying for the fabric, a little less than 1/2 yard might be worth it.

Earlier this week I was at my local quilt store and we were talking about how to determine the amount of yardage needed for various projects. The lady who was assisting me gave me the name of this site and it might be very beneficial to many.
mywebquilter.com Also there is an app for our smart phones and I phones by Robert Kaufman fabrics, just go into your play store for this one.

Start with cutting fabric strips WOF at 9 1/2 inches. Fan fold up to 6 layers across the die. The die will cut 24 HST with each pass. Fold excess fabric to the side so it rides though the machine with the die.
If you use 2 fabrics. Put them RST (right-sides together). The HST are ready to piece as they are already color sorted.
