Seems like cones are kind of big too be sitting on top of the machine. If I was going to use one, I'd get one of the metal stands.

Is totally useless. I had one years ago and was never able to use it. My son had a blast with it. Each piece of plastic is smaller than the previous one while you pull it up, and when I put a spool on it it would collapse again.

I do not need anything fancy, just handy to use. Read some where that quilt makers are using the bottom part of containers of 50 or 100 C Ds. It has a spindle to hold the cone thread and it is free. Always trying to recycle.
