I have a blue and cream sampler quilt and I love it I do like the Jacobs ladder block but there are many others that I like just as well and I am also one of those that prefer traditional over modern

I love a Sampler - am working on a Sampler right now. I like to find the right design to go with a part of the life of the person or persons. A designed Sampler like the Farmer's Wife Sampler Quilt would be made according to directions, however. That is on my to do list also. One Hundred and Eleven blocks in the quilt - quite a task, but what a rewarding one.

I also make my samplers in the colors I think the person likes the best or what the room color is and work in all kinds of shades that go with the colors - The one I am working on right now is shades of pink, blue, green and yellow with white on ecru sashing and a batik backing (with all of the colors of the quilt in the batik.) Gonna be pretty!!!!! I prefer traditional over modern also. I like people to ask me "What does this mean?", "Why this one?", or "Whose Idea was this?" Fortunately for me or unfortunately for me, I can say, "Someone designed the block, I ran away with it!!!!" I just have to stay true to myself and everything falls into place and people ask me to make a Sampler quilt for them, so hopefully I am doing something right! I hope! Edie

Here is another idea. I used my Jacob's Ladder blocks and a storm at sea block to make a circular design which would somewhat give the idea of a Double Wedding Ring quilt.

Personally, I love using Jacob's Ladder for quilts, along with Contrary Wife (well, it works in my case ) as they both look great in two color quilts.

    Default Sampler

Edie sounds like you are doing everything right I have also made several sampler quilts to give away I was making mine in 12 inch blocks 4 across and 5 down with 4 inch sashing and cornerstones and could make one in about 8 weeks but I did quilt it on my domestic machine now age is catching me so I am slower but guess my favorite part is just making the blocks
