I use Schmetz Microtex needles for piecing, they are fantastic with the tightly woven batiks especially. And I sew on a Janome 6600P. I'm thinking the colour coding between the Schmetz and the Janome may be different and wherein the confusion may lie.

Me too! Most of the time I use Schmetz but I also use Organ quite often. I really like both brands

Titanium coated Top-stitch needles are suppose to be the best. They last for months instead of one project at a time. I got some at the Madison WI quilt expo but haven't put one in yet. These are from Superior Threads, but I think other thread makers may carry them also.

Organ makes both Janome and Superior needles. Supposedly they are a bit longer than the Schmetz. Some of the newer Janome machines won't work right unless an Organ/Janome/Superior needle is used. You can get these online but there is also a Yahoo group that does bulk ordering of Organ needles.

My Janome loves the titanium needles that Organ makes.

I use Purple tip Janome needles all the time but I'm sewing a combination of fabrics (some stretch) that tend to lead to skipped stitches and the purple tip needles are wonderful for that. They are a ball point needle and I don't think I'd use them if I was piecing. I only wish I had time to get back to quilting....sigh

Janome needles are Organ needles. You can get them for less than buying them from Janome.
Purple tip are ballpoint. ORGAN 90/14 TOPSTITCH are great for piecing.

I have always used a Schmetz universal needle on my Janome when I am piecing or sewing crafts and clothing. I also use the Schmetz universal needle in size 12 when I am machine quilting. I've never had a problem. I've never heard of Organ needles so I may look into them.

I've had four different Janome machines and always use Schmetz needles for everything.....no problems yet and have used them for almost 20 years.

I agree about Janome machines using Organ needles. Thats all I use in my machine and get them the same place as Tom W. In fact Wawak is only 10 miles away from me so I don't need to pay shipping/ I just go get them from their warehouse. LOL
