Long Arm Quilting with Minky
Can someone give me some tips on quilting on a long arm with minky as the backing. I have heard some horror stories, but also have seen some really good results.

Janice,
I have only done 2 quilts with Minkee and only on a long arm. I loaded the selvage on the leaders. they have less stretch. I did NOT tighten the rollers alot. I almost felt like they were TOO loose, but all was well. I used a low loft batt (warm and white I think) with a bit longer stitch length. I had no tucks and it turned out lovely! The 2nd 'quilt' was a sheet my friend bought at a yard sale. She got 2 top sheets and wanted to turn one into a coverlet type throw. We just quilted the sheet and a Minkee backing, no batt. I even enticed her to quilt on the long arm for her FIRST try! We used blanket binding (the silky kind) for the edges. Again, not too tight. Take a deep breath! It will be fine!

minkie is nice to work with- just don't stretch it out of shape- smooth it-don't stretch it.
i don't know what 'horror stories' you have heard- we've been using it with great results for 6 years now-and i read lots of posts on this board from happy people.
one thing about minkie is it can (shed) alot on the cut edge===it makes a mess of a cutting table- when i purchase it i usually take it out when i get home-step outside and give it a good shake- to get rid of some of that before i take it in. but it is soft=easy to stitch and makes wonderful quilt backs.

I LOVE quilting with minkee! It's what most of my customers want for their baby and lap quilts. I don't load my sleavedge to the leaders, I load the other way. I think it helps the stabilize it and not so stretchy, but I may be doing it wrong. But it works for me!
