My current Brother CS6000i doesn't have a straight stitch needle and Brother tells me they don't make one for this model. Does anyone know of a Brother that has the straight stitch needle plate? I like Brother and would like to stick with them. TIA

Sharon what seem to be your problem.
I have the 4000D and I use it for piecing also with no problem.

Hi everyone, my problem is that the needle plate (zigzag) is eating my fabric when piecing. I am getting tired of alway using a leader piece of fabric. I prefer a machine that has the straight stitch needle plate.

I always use a leader on all of my machines, some of which have different needleplates. I do this because I use squares and I make a simple (usually)baby quilt in the process. I hardly ever cut the thread unless changing bobbins. I have had students who were unable to do this because it was an extra thing for them to stress over, but it works well for me.

try putting a piece of painter tape over part of the hole or just old on to the 2 threads and that will keep it from eating your ends
Sharon do you have just the one machine. Or do you have like an older machine sitting around you could use for the piecing.

I don't have an older machine yet. Someday. I also have a Singer Curvy. I am just getting back into quilting and sewing. I never had the patience with a sewing machine. Getting older has taught me patience and I am enjoying using a machine now. Just wish I had another needle plate to avoid my squares getting chewed up sometimes.

Sharon i have been making flying geese on my 4000D
Al through I have had it for a while I have only used it for Emboridery. But since I have been making HGT and FG with it I have enjoyed sewing on it. Do you have the knee lever and the needle down. If so try putting the presser foot down and putting the needle into the fabric if that doesn't work try what i had menchant in an earlier message.
