    I think it's risky to baste with red thread, especially on white fabrics, as red isn't always totally dye-stable. "Crocking" can occur, which means transfer of dye in the absence of water, just from the thread rubbing against the fabric. Hopefully you are lucky and the thread that was used has dye that was set correctly by the manufacturer.
