I decided to make a few for my niece. I am not sure if to add some thin batting or another layer of flannel or not add anything. I am using a heavier weight flannel for both sides

I only use onside cotton fabric and the other flannel. Your choice - others on QB have other suggestions as you will soon hear.

Thats what is so great about this board.

I am making some for next grand child....cotton material on front and flannel on back

I have a new grandson that I plan on babysitting next weekend. This is a great idea to make before seeing him.

Thanks.

I only use two flannels no batting when making burp cloths.

What size do you make them?

I use flannel only. I also shape them wider on ends witnarower middle so they stay on shoulder better. I have used cottons but flannel more absorbent. Niece recently got some made from polar fleece which while soft don't absorb anything.

I have seen some in LQS that use just two layers of flannel. They feel really soft and I bet they are absorbent. I have been making burp clothes using flannel on one side and a prefolded diaper on the other. I make a matching receiving blanket of two pieces of flannel and I think it makes a nice gift. The pattern is on a site called You Can Sew This. A free pattern.

They are fun to make, I use cotton and flannel on back too. Plus I do a embroidery on front side.

I use 2 layers of flannel (2 different ones to give it interest and make it reversible) Been doing them like that for years and have gotten rave reviews from the moms. They are very soft and very absorbent.
