For sale, or for hire... or for gifting?
Or is each one a unique creation? |
I never make the same quilt twice. I must get bored very easily.
When I find a pattern I enjoy I'll make several. Its amazing how different fabrics will make the pattern look unique.
I have made the same pattern more than once, just in different colors.
I try not to. Which is pretty bad considering the amount we all spend on patterns some times.
good question! I usually don't make the same quilt twice...except for the turning twenty that is so versatile and quick.
I have only done the same pattern a few times, usually each of my quilts are 'unique'. ;)
If I like a pattern, I may make several. Just use different fabrics, colors, and quilt a different size.
I've made several Lone Stars - but trying something different in the setting each time. Yeah, they have the same star, but no 2 really look anything alike.
Also Blooming 9-patches - more than a dozen as those are so much fun (for me) working to get the right fabrics. And those can end up with totally different looks - kids brights, elegant, oriental, etc. I actually got sick of doing 9 patches so I used the fabrics chosen for my last Blooming to make a Lone Star. ;-) The star is done but it's in my UFO pile (for over 4 years  ) while I ponder the setting. I've made several RainyDay quilts - again, just testing how the the different fabrics can work. I don't ever use "collections" of fabrics, or charm packs or layer cakes. Way too matchy matchy for me. I much prefer making my own fabric choices. Totally. I have a fabulous baby quilt I make all the time because it's perfect and graphic and ignores whatever 'decor' the parents might have in mind. ;-) And I always, always know I have the fabrics needed on hand. With the exception of the baby quilt (which can look similar even though each has different fabrics), I consider each one unique. |
I made this quilt twice - http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-52342-1.htm
The first time was for my oldest DD - then for my youngest DD - story inside of the original post. |
If I really like the pattern I will make them again, but never use the same colors twice. They take on different personalities with the different colors! :)
I love OBW's and have made several. And I'm working on my second bargello.

I have made several tumbler quilts using 1930's reproduction fabrics. I like the tumbler and it has been requested for several quilts. I am making 2 for DD to give to her grandmothers-in-law for Mother's Day.
I've made several of a favorite pattern, but with different fabrics. One time while making a log cabin patriotic quilt I miscalculated and made too many blocks; I ended up with two full-size quilts and one lap quilt! I gave two of them away so it was all good.
I have several patterns that I've made more than once. I've made two variable star quilts, three log cabins, two star in a star quilts, two string quilts, two all borders, 10 pinwheel baby quilts and I'm working on number 7 & 8 square in a square scrap quilts. I will need to add two more of those quilts before long for a new granddaughter and a step grandniece. I like them because I can use up all of my crazy, ugly or wild prints in them and they always turn out really cool.
Nope, I don't like doing what's already been done...by me or anyone else. :D
I have made the same pattern twice with different fabs. One to keep, one to sell. I have also made several T-shirt quilts on commission that I used the same setting but they all look different because of the T-Shirt imprints. Normally once I make a pattern I don't want to make it again unless someone is paying me to do it.

:XD: :XD: :XD:

Definitely if I knew the recipient wanted that pattern.

I've made Billie Lauder's, "There's a dog on my Quilt" 3 times in different colors and my most recent was similar only 2 cats instead of a dog & ball.
I made a faux raggy denim cathedral windows for hubby last year and have a crib size one laid out now using denim & corduroy for the circles and flannel scraps for the windows. Hubby's is all denim circles and the windows are his work shirts laid out in Trip Around the World style. |
Made two different quilts, several times.
They were similar, just a slight difference. People loved them so much, everyone needed to have one, just like it. One was an Ohio State Quilt, the other an Angel quilt. I made the Angel unique, looking like the person who requested it. Still, it looks like I could make both of those quilts, with no end to it. Requests are high. |

I made 3 Vintage Moments by Marsha McClusky. I made the first one for me but my 3 girls fought over it so bad I ended up making 2 more. All 3 are hand quilted and beautiful.
I rarely make anything twice but this time, I did. |

I've made 3 of my avatar quilt, the first to see if I could make it, the second to test the pattern, and the third to test the revised pattern. I've made several OBW's and 2 of the Ricky Tims kaleidoscope (those are like potato chips, you can't stop at one). Several traditional log cabins, all with different settings and some with altered blocks. I plan to make the French braid again (when I find the right fabrics). I don't see any problem with repeating a pattern, because the finished quilts will be very different.

I've made the following quilt several times; tried to find photos of each version, but they're buried on CDs somewhere. This was one of my first quilts; I made it in a weekend from a Singer book. I also made it in entirely off-whites for a wedding present; and I made it in pastels for a baby. And I made it in bright batiks for a niece.
I plan to make several rag quilts of course using different fabrics to gift to others. I'm putting one together now with a second already cut and ready to sew.
I'll probably make several rail fence ones as well. |
I did! I never prewash my fabrics. The first quilt I made for a doll quilt swap, when washed had red run all over the predominantly white quilt! So I remade it. My wonderful secretary took the first one and managed to get the red out!
I like making those Twisters,I've made a few of those, also a full sized D9P and a baby quilt D9P.I forgot to take picture of the baby quilt.Connie in CO

When making Project Linus quilts, I try to make two or three at once, just using the same pattern and fabric. I can make more quilts faster that way.
I have made 3 I Spy quilts with the same layout, different fabrics depending on the gender of the child I was making it for. Plan to make several more.
Actually, yes. I made my two oldest grand daughters a Sun Bonnet Sue quilt. One in pinks and greens and one in yellows and lavenders. But, that's the only ones I've ever duplicated.
I've made two Bodacious patterns in different colors and I have made two Jacob's Ladders in different colors. I also made two identical 9-patch with alternate heart squares because I had made too many 9-patch blocks for the first one.
Some patterns just speak to me and it is in the color choices where I try to meet the receiver's need. |
My sister had a habit of asking me to duplicate quilts I made as she liked them so much. I'm also made the same quilt twice using different colors.
I have made the same pattern more than once, some are just too fun to make only one :D:D:D
Yup I sure do. Sometimes two at once of the same quilt.
I agree, different colors and sometimes textures can change your whole design! I make wall hangings and then have all my daughters and daughter-in-law wanting one , so must make several! Don't mind at all! Plus I get to show them off at quilt guild mettings!

There is a free pattern called "Wickedly Easy" that I have made several times, mostly the crib size for charity quilts. This is a free pattern. Just google "Wickedly Easy".
There is also a pattern called "Easy Breezy" which is just a large center panel with a plain first border and a piano key border that I have made several times. |
I have made a Bear's Paw in the Cabin quilt for every wedding in our family except one ald also for my mother but all of them were in different colors. I also sold 2 of that pattern. I have made quite a few bargellos as well. If I really like the pattern I will make more than 1.
