I just finished watching a video on adding folded prairie points to a quilt top before sandwiching the back and batting. The instructor suggested adding the backing fabric to the top, right sides together, then the batting on top of the wrong side of the backing and stitch around to leave a space to turn the quilt right side out. The opening is then whipped stitched together. The quilt is then quilted.
has anyone done this method? What method would you suggest Thanks

This is called the birthing method. It is a common way of attaching all 3 layers. Often, but not always, the quilt is then tied rather than quilted. This is the method we use when our group makes quilts for donation. Depending on the size of the quilt, having a helper is, well, helpful!

I've always called this method "pillowcasing" and is the method I've always seen used if you want the prairie points to point outward. However, if you want the points to point inward, you would layer and bind in the regular way with the points laying on the top. I've seen quilts done like this where the last border contrasts and really shows the prairie points, plus you have that additional 3-D look of the points.

The birthing method works better for smaller quilts. I've done up to 50x72 this way. I've also done a king size quilt, but that didn't work quite as well. The batting wasn't evenly distributed, but I manage to hand quilt it.
