Default Shopping for a good sewing machine

I am looking to buy a sewing machine and I want one with a deep throat. How do I find websites that will give you the prices?

Most high end machines you need to go to the dealer except some of the janomes you can get online for about 1200.

look on line, there are places that can 'stretch' the throat of your sewing machine! i don't know if that would be less expensive or not

if you know the specific machine you are shopping for, you can go to "shopping" in yahoo and get a list of prices, low to high....check with machine dealers, as they sometimes will have a very good used machine that has been traded in.....I got a great buy on a used Janome 6600 from a dealer (customer upgraded to 11000)....the price also included all the free instruction on the machine that I wanted as well as free classes on quilting.

Many sewing machine manufactures prohibit listing less than full retail on new machines when advertizing on line... particularly the upper end manufactures.

Remember...don't trust the "reviews" if the site accepts advertising.

I have a Viking Sapphire 830 with a ten inch throat. Bought it new over 5 years ago for 1100.
It is a great machine and has some nice features. Love the needle down with the pop up foot when you stop sewing. This is great for applique. Easy to thread and has a drop in bobbin which is a must have for me. I want to see how much thread is still on the bobbin.
No lever for lifting and lowering the foot, it does it automatically.
Lots of stitchs but dont use them much.
