When I was taking painting lessons, one of the things I learned was that having a variety of values in a painting was very important. The same is true for quilting. If you are not sure there is enough contrast or change of value, there are two ways to check. One is to look at the painting or quilt sample through a red lens or film. What this does is give everything a red color so only the value changes are noticable. If there isn't much difference you know it would be best to change some of the values. The other way is to make a copy of the painting or quilt sample in black and white. Again same thing. Your looking to find light, medium and dark, not all one tone.

If you read the previous posts, you'll see it explained!

I use the tops of Tide bottles in one of my drawers to hold binding clips, seam rippers, etc. I also use them in my medicine cabinet to hold qtips!

I use a curtain rod, bungee cords and chip clips to hang wallhangings (finished and in progress) in my quilt room.

I use the big plastic containers from Sams that cat litter comes in..these are marked by size (like 3x3 etc) and then as I cut scraps, they go into the right size containers. When one gets full, I know its time to use it for a scrappy quilt. These stack too, so dont take up too much space. Could also be used for FQ or colors or ... whatever.

I have my father's old pipe rack with a humidor - great for putting scissors in and the humidor hold buttons (or candy)

Thanks so much for the explanation about the red glasses. I have no art training and making quilts is my one outlet for creating. I get such pleasure from completeing one.

They also work good as file folders. I keep them next to the computers to put patterns printed off the web in, and have them sorted in categories as I go.
