I have tried and tried to use a thimble, and must have 15 or more, but I cannot use one. I use pliers.

I use the leather stick-on dots. Never found a regular thimble that I felt comfortable with. I actually use the side of my ring finger to push the needle when embroidering or binding a quilt.

I use a traditional metal thimble and was taught to huff into the thimble or wet your finger before putting it on--it helps to hold a little too big thimble on. Or you could do what both my Mom and Grandmother did (I have the thimbles)--just shape them to stay on--but both of theirs were brass and I'm not sure that the newer ones will bend.

I wear a little disc of adhesive backed leather. it comes in a package of 20, or less but they are re-usable, and best of all I forget it's on, and end up sticking it to a lamp where I've been sewing so it will be there later. marvelous invention!!
