    Sulky threads, the blendables especially, are very highly promoted for quilting...to the extent that, for years, Sulky was a major sponsor of the Hoffman Challenge and awarded major prizes for best use of Sulky thread. They are NOT by a long shot limited to machine embroidery and it is ONLY the cotton thread that has a shredding problem.

    To the OP, Sulky cottons (Solids and Blendables) only come in 12wt and 30wt. They don't make a 40wt so that may be another reason to check your needle size.

    Award wining David Taylor using Sulky Blendables for his quilts---or at least a couple of years ago did. This is on a sit down Handiquilter. I know nothing about that thread but obviously can be used for quilting and on a high speed machine.
