I'm making a quilt that is 4" blocks and 10 blocks X 15 blocks. I have almost all the blocks done.

Should I sew them into larger blocks? like 5 blocks X 5 blocks?

Or put them into rows and sew all the rows together.

I've never made a quilt with so many small blocks before.

    Thanks!

I really doesn't matter. It's a personal preference. I like rows because I can lay them out and they usually get in the right place. I'd have a problem if I did it in 'chunks'

Just me, but I don't think I really matters. Whatever works best for you. I think it might be more manageable combining the small squares into larger blocks then put together in rows. Let us know what you decide. Love to see photos.

It works best for me to sew them into rows and then sew the rows together, but it's totally up to you. I don't think there is a right or a wrong way. Good luck!

For me it is easier to work with small sqaures that have been combined into a larger square. It is not so much lenght at each row to work with.

I noticed when I put my quilts together in four blocks and then those four into four blocks instead of row by row the quilt stayed squarer and I didn't have to sew long seam after long seam.

I perfer to put small blocks into a bigger block, then finish quilt. It is just a matter of preference, I quess.

Interesting topic. I always do rows. I chain sew vertical rows and then sew the horizontal rows without ever cutting the threads. It never even occurred to me to make smaller blocks into bigger chunks, but I can see how that might be easier. I guess I'll have to test drive that plan.
