Default knee pedal

My wonderful new Phaff comes with both foot pedal and knee pedal. I haven't used the knee pedal yet, but nice to know there is an alternative.

I like the idea of this as I have a terrible time FMQ with my Brother 1500S -- I just can't get the foot pedal speed set right, so I'm constantly speeding up and slowing down. Does this device have to be used on a frame, or could it be used for FMQ as well?
