Default What happens when you start a BOM late?

I have never done a BOM. I found this one on line that I really like and would like to do it but I don't know how it works and I can't get anybody to email me back with the info. Its called: Because I Said So! Bom, and I found it at: www.patchworkpumpkin.com.au. I have never ordered from overseas either?? But does anybody know, since the BOM has already started, how does that work? Can you just start it any month, and they will send you one every month until it is done? I can't see them keeping track of all that if everyone is different...
Thank you.

If they aren't answering you back I'd take that as a sign and stay away from them. It might be a sign of promblems in the future with them getting your money and you getting nothing in return. I don't do BOM online, as of yet. I've only done them in stores and then you are always paid ahead by one month and they hold your credit card # incase you back out before the yr had ended. Each store has their own rules so you need to check that out but if a company can't respond to you then no matter how much I like the design I'd steer clear of them

bom's tend to be kind of expensive (you pay for the convienience & postage) and it depends on the shop how they set up the program-
some say 'can start anytime' those are set up so when you join you start with block 1= regardless of when they started the program
others have a certain 'start date' and normally you can not join later- unless they happen to have extras (expected more members than they received) then they may let you start late- charge you for all of the blocks up to that point & send you all of them to 'catch up'...i would imagine you are not getting response because seldom are bom's set up to be able to participate 'over-seas'--they have to be able to verify & charge your credit card every month & you have to commit to paying for the whole project- it would be advisable to find a shop state side that is doing that one-
try The Cotton Patch Quilt Shoppe (in east tawas, Michigan) they offer over 100 bom's and most are ones that you can join any time....
some shops charge a start up fee- plus a monthly fee- you have to commit to the complete program- plan to spend $300+ to complete your project by the time it is all done-..but you do pay monthly-so it spreads the cost out over a year or morel.

I would buy the pattern--it is barely more than the price of one month. And the postage of almost $5 US per shipment would add up.

This month, I joined a BOM from a web site in Washington. In only a few days, I received the material for the first five blocks. The BOM started in January. I had ordered fabric from this site in the past and was pleased with the service. I would not order a BOM from a company that would not return my calls. So far, I have made only the January block. I am working on two other quilts. It will probably take me awhile to catch up with the BOM; but it is a pattern I really wanted.

The free BOMs on line are usually just the pattern. Some post the patterns for one month only, some for two months and if you are lucky they will leave all the patterns posted for you to download at your convenience or if you don't get started at month one. For the ones that only leave them up for a month or two you can usually buy the monthly pattern you have missed, some you can't ever buy the pattern or you can wait until they release the whole pattern. I have participated in several free BOMs on line and didn't have a problem with any of them. I did 12 last year and am working or 2 this year. The bad thing for me is I don't like waiting a whole month to work on the quilt so this year I am printing off the patterns and will make the quilts next year.

I printed a BOM about a year ago and the last block was never posted. It was "Sentimental Journey" by Block Central. I sent a couple of e-mails and never got a reply. It began January, 2010. I'm glad that I didn't start the quilt. I think I will be able to do the borders without the pattern, but a couple of years ago, I'm not so sure that I would have been able to do that. I have often wondered what happened. The site is still there without anything added. Strange.

it doesn't matter when you start it. they will send it to you usually the 1rst of the month until you have all your blocks, but as romanojg said if they don't contact you it will be a problem if you are not getting your block sand they are already giving you poor customer service.. whoever you do your BOM with should give you good replies, I would go with a different company who replies to you right away for a BOM because I have had a bad experience with a company that didn't reply to me never sent me my blocks on time, was rude to me in emails.

I have done several BOM's from www.fatquartershop.com and I have been pleased with them. You can start anytime - they just send a block about every month. It is true, however, that this is kind of expensive when you add it all up. At $14.99 per month for a year, you could easily buy a pattern and fabric at your LQS for a lot less I think. But I do like the concept - much less overwhelming to attack one block at a time.
