Hope my swap partner is not disappointed because I did not make hers 5 x 9. That just seems way too large to me. I must eat smaller snacks then anyone else or else my 'mug' is smaller. 5 inches I can see and 7 seems just right. 9 inches seems almost big enough to hold a sandwich...I was thinking more along the lines of cookie??? LOL Hope no one is offended.

Sandy, I'm sure no one will be offended by the size of your mug rug. All the mug rugs that have been shown are so cute. I would be so pleased to receive any of them. For me, I love receiving things that are handmade. It's like a little peek inside their hearts. My mug rug will go out Tuesday. I like mug rugs because I can experiment with colors and patterns.

Sandy you know I wasn't picking on you as we chat :)I posted a comment on the minimum size. That was a rule we all agreed to upfront. I had to come here three times to check as I too kept forgetting. If we had partner to partner you could easily ask hey do you mind if its.. but this is different. Therefore not as much an option. If your already done not much you can do and your partner will probably be understanding. If your in the beginning of design I think its easy enough to fix your design to fit those minimums . I wish they called these snack rugs/mats not mug rugs. those to me are coasters. kids would love their own SNACK MAT in goofy kid prints. but well a mug rug/implies something for your mug. the truth is its for a snack and a mug. so design accordingly and you can maybe better see the reason for the size.

I have to clear the record here: those cute mug rugs i posted AS STATED were ideas I found on pinterest not my own (I wish). I did get a chance to make some fun ones today however. Just a bit of hand stitching on the binding and you can have your rugs!

Okay ....Here it is... The size realy does not matter. Had to put something in the post. PLEASE....PLEASE do not stress out. Just have fun and do the best you can. We are not here to judge your work. We are here to have fun and to do something different. If you can not find anything about your partner... so be it. If you like the colors you picked out.. go for it. Please have fun and enjoy your master piece. :)

It is a wonderful time in the neighborhood. :D

well why didnt ya say so? want me to sing? its a wonderful time in the neighborhood a wonderful time in the neighborhood would ya be mine wont you be mine. please wont you be my neighbor. hey where is that blue cardigan of mine? never could get the kids to watch that show. sesame street all the way.

question: when you do applique and a tight satin stitch around the edge what number do you use for the top and bottom? I tried closing the zig zag in tight and well it gets so close together it makes it too hard to push/pull under the foot and suddenly you get a snaggle mess there. is there a standard so you can stitch close enough to hold the fabric but not bunch it up.. curiosity makes me ask...

Elizabrat, on my 1991 Kenmore 385 machine, I put it on the buttonhole setting for the ends of the buttonhole, and +1 on whatever tension I'm using for the fabric. That's the only way I could get mine to be "right" in stitch length and width as well as tension. Even then I have to go slow and fiddle the corners to make them work.

Okay I think a 5x9 is the perfect size. My mugs are on the large size my son calls it them soup bowls not coffee mugs.

I can't speak as to anyone being offended, but if they are too small, they won't be used. I got one for Christmas that was only 5 x 7", and it really isn't large enough. I'm certainly not offended, but disappointed that I won't use it very much. The swap rules call for 9 x 7" which for this swap I'll follow. But I find when I make them on my own, they sort of naturally come out 6 x 8".

Wow! Some cute mug rugs being posted. Love to see variety for sure to get inspiration. I have a small stack of rugs finished, but keep finding fault with them for one reason or another so will keep working at it til I feel happy with my finished product. Is everyone posting pictures before you send out since no one knows where they are going, or waiting?
