Jane you sound like you might want 25 blocks going through the mail. Are you attaching the blocks in your row? Will it be hard for us to figure out what goes with what?

I can do whatever anyone else wants. I have no preconceived notion of how things "should be".

I am still debating my own.

Jane, I am doing a BOM in 30s stuff right now. I have lots of ideas (and scraps!). Are there any blocks you don't like? I am not a fan of Sun Bonnet Sue, my self and am getting tired of baskets.

Barbara, I am all set for yours. It will be the easiest for me because I am stealing ideas from myself that I had for my sister for several years.

Wonnie, I am still a bit at a loss about yours. It will work for me once I see something. I know what colors you want and that will require some shopping (darn the luck!) but don't have any idea what to do yet.

You are all so far ahead of me. I need a baby quilt for my first grandson in 2 1/2 weeks and just decided on the pattern yesterday. I have had the fabric for a while.

I don't remember what I posted but I am now really leaning toward My Sewing Room with an emphasis on vintage things. I know someone on another post was doing beautiful appliques of her sewing machines. I don't have THAT talent but there are so many fabrics available now. I think blocks made with SOME sewing type fabrics would be fun. What does everyone think of that idea? Any thing sewing related - not just quilting - would be fine but I want to stick with more traditional look.

Okay, just throwing out thoughts as they form. Someone stop me!!!

Sewing room sounds great. I think the hardest one will be the neighborhood at dusk. It boggles my mind. I will have to wait and see what Yvonne sends me.

Mary, hello! Vintage sounds cool ... by traditional do you mean well known quilt blocks with vintage items incorporated? You've got 3 months to decide for sure so if you feel you need to change your mind later that's fine with me. For myself, I think it is nearly impossible to figure out what to do on others rows until I see what's already been done. No, you're not behind "everybody" because if I'm included in the "everybody" I haven't even started yet!;) Right now I think I want to do a long row as opposed to blocks but, who knows ... when I get my "inspiration" I may end up with blocks!!!

I lean toward 30s repro and Civil War prints. So, I am talking more about colors and prints. I don't want bright orange swirls or pink polka dots on black. I don't want people to feel obligated to go buy a bunch of fabric. So, I was thinking that if you had some sewing related item some where in a block that would be adequate. I am probably going to do the center and do some sort of single block/scene type. If someone else wants to do something similar that is great or not is fine.

I have several sewing machines and I may use my embroidery machine for some of it.

This line of fabric has some nice pieces I like. My LQS has some of them and I may use some of it as a base or even as a sashing.

I love traditional blocks and would be fine with rows of those in colors that coordinate with what I finally settle upon.

Just going with my thought process here but I am pretty sure I am going to stick with this one!

Thanks for letting me play!

Mary, are there some colors you want - or don't want? Or do you want to wait until you settle on a theme?

MaryLane 09-25-2012 05:53 PM

I am leaning more toward blues, aquas, reds, green & some yellows. I don't want orange, pink, purple, etc... I am going to see if the LQS has the red tape measure fabric and maybe use that as sashing.

Yes, Sherry, my batch of blocks will be 'floating around' amongst the group not sewn together. I just ask that each of you ID your blocks somehow. Maybe pin them together??? Yeah, I know. I'm a rebel.

I'm not a huge fan of Sunbonnet Sue (or Sam, for that matter) either. Anything pieced (please, no embroidery) blocks will be great.

MaryLane - your theme sounds great. I have ideas swirling around in my head already!

Sherry - I could PM you the pattern/idea I have in mind for Yvonnes' theme. I wouldn't want to spoil the surprise - - -

I need to clarify! I just re-read one of my posts & no wonder Sherry is confused. So sorry. I prefer that MY BLOCKS not be sewn together. Of course I will sew the blocks I make for each of you into rows, unless you want something else. My apologies for the confusion - - - -

Jane,I read somewhere where another group had a member who was going to scatter her blocks around the quilt and, if I remember correctly, someone in the group suggested she put her initials on each of her blocks. They could be quite small and then still use a label on the back so that everyone knew which blocks were hers ... just a thought....
