SURVEY for COMIC BOARD users

LAKEKIDS - Thanks for all posting that info. That's what I read and was confused which lead me to post survey here.

SANDYPANTS - That sounds like a ROOM FULL of fabric to me...maybe you should share!

The paper clip and other suggestion sound good...but I don't think I'll use them (or marking the amount) right now. I have enough to do downstairs (where MY AREA is located) to keep me busy for another month of evenings and days off work.

JACIQLTZNOK - I agree - we NEED to see pictures of all this organization going on! (We'll keep watching under the main MISSION: ORGANIZATION header).

I would like to see ONE board with say 5 yards of fabric on it. So that I can get an idea of it will look like. Is there room to write on the top how many yards and the date? I found some on Amazon that are ok, but not the best. However they are the BEST buy. I have No comic book store near me to find the GOOD ones that passed those tests.

that is perfect! thank you! Since my shelves are not adjustable I need to get the most height possible, which is why I loved the LIFE magazine boards! My shelves are also 15" deep! Again, the live magazine boards work great for this! Must do some more research on these boards!

Just got back from the comic book store. It took us awhile, of course the first place didn't have any, so we had lunch. The first guy sent us to Office Max. Nope . That cutie( wish I were 19 again lol ) looked up the address of the comic book store and sent us there. I bought 3 pkgs for $9 each. Saved me $3 off the cheapest price on line. So although they Say they are not charging you for shipping Yes they are. :-)

I have used foam board from the dollar store which is also acid free and works well. I like it a lot - very firm and my fabric looks great. The down side it takes up more room and you have to cut it. The thing about cutting it is you can cut it to the size you want.
I recently purchased some comic book boards and while they are not as firm, they do take a lot less room in shelves so I think that is the direction I will be going except for large pieces of fabric that I will continue to use the dollar store boards for.
I do have to say that which ever board you choose it is a far better way to store fabric for all the reasons that other people have mentioned.

I have all my fabric grouped by the fabric line. I have them stacked up on my bookcases grouped together and in big rubbermaid tubs. Also in drawers in my dressers and I bought FQ fabric boxes. I've spent so much on storage containers that I hate to change my way but it would be so nice to have them all on display. But, I have lots of fabric, but mostly it's kits and fabric lines (like layers cakes, jelly rolls, charms and yardage). So I lay my layer cakes down, put my fabric on top, then the FQs and charms and jelly rolls. That's how I stack them. My rubbermaid tubs are long and not deep so I can see through them to see my fabric. But the fabric FQ boxes I have, I have to look inside to see what I have. I have one bookcase and one stand up storage unit (like a bookcase with doors on it) and the rest is the tubs, FQ boxes and dressers. Should I get rid of everything but the bokcase and storage unit and buy a couple more bookcases so I can see at a glance all my fabric? And what do you do about FQs? I have so many of them. They wouldn't fit on a comic card, would they? And does anyone else group their fabric by the lines instead of color?

That's a great price. I ordered mine off Amazon and they were more expensive. The "up" side is I didn't have to go trotting around the countryside looking for them. Unlike many of you, I really don't have a huge stash but I figure this is the time to start the organizing - while it is small enough to keep under control.

Well now that I know where they are I can go straight there. Having moved here not to long ago I am still learning my way around. I didn't think my stash was that big either. I am over 150 now and still have at least that much more to go. I know for some that wouldn't be big. But to me its a lot. I also am measuring it all as I wrap and sorting out the pieces that are cut funny or not a half yard. I am tearing some into fat quarters ( the cut funny ones) and I have a few that are just long pieces . My scrap bin is over flowing actually I am on my third container. I have a small lidded trash can , and kitty litter bucket stuffed full and a hamper I am now filling. I guess there are going to be lots of scrap quilts in my future.
I am just trying to figure out what to do with all the fat quarters.

well, I recalculated, counted, did some figuring and decided that I just can NOT do my organization this way. I would NEVER get all of my fabric onto my shelves this way. SO, I am going to do the Ruler folding and thin things out and go from there!
