this was 96 x 96 before washing. now it's 94 x 94, so it lost 2" all around.
the cutting was done when the kids were small, and i don't know what the fibre content is. so i quilted heavily to compensate for uneven shrinking. the outside blocks are quilted flat, and the inside ones are puffy in the center. this was done with invisible monofilament.
i should say that i have it near the front door and every time we open the door it blows around, so i pinned it for the pictures. it's really very flat with very square corners.

Oh I love it!!! It is sooooo pretty! I know you said you don't know the name of the pattern, but do you have the pattern or know where I can get a similar one? I would really like to put this on my project list.
Do the centers have extra batting to make them puffy, or is it just the lack of quilting that makes them stand out?

for each block i just cut opposing colors, two corners and two insides each, no pattern. i just didn't quilt the center, but if i had thought in advance, i think i would have put some extra batting in there. i was just playing it as i went.
