Fancy Forest Baby Quilt Finished! Plus One Other With Scraps!
My daughter picked Elizabeth Hartmann's Fancy Forest pattern as her choice for a baby quilt for her first baby due next month. They are keeping the baby's gender a secret, so needed to do it in gender neutral fabrics. I don't think I would ever have attempted this pattern had she not requested it, it was very time consuming with lots of tiny pieces. Somewhat of a struggle, but I am glad I finished it, and in time! I quilted it using my walking foot, in the wood grain pattern--another first for me but not too hard to do.
I had lots of fabric scraps left over, so made another baby quilt for her with the same fabrics, but in a simpler, more modern style. Much faster assembly!

They are both wonderful. (I feel your pain, my daughter requested the full sized fancy forest, the butterfly pattern and the flamingo pattern.) These are tough but well written patterns. Yours is wonderful. What is the name of the pattern for the scraps?

The scrappy pattern is called Simply Woven by Jessica Kelly. It is a free pattern found at modabakeshop.com. It is a 'slice and dice' pattern, sewing strips together, rotating it and cutting through it, then inserting another strip, etc. Pretty easy, went fast.

I've always admired that pattern but have never attempted it for the reason you stated, too many small pieces. Kudos to you for getting it done. And a fine job you did as well. Both quilts are lovely.
Edited to add: I really like that wood grain quilting. It's perfect for this quilt. I'll have to give it a try.
