Default need help regarding this quilt

    Hi
I'm new here, but i have really enjoyed all the reading i've been doing. such talent here! Hope someone can help me with this.
I am making a quilt for a friend of mine who is a piano teacher and at the beginning of the year he accidently managed to cut 3 fingers off his left hand. (index, middle and ring) ouch! so he only has stubs there. But instead of feeling sorry for himself he has been inspired by God to compose several hymns we sing at our congregation. So I took his picture and am making this quilt.
my problem is this: in the dark starry sky I am doing a swirl out of clef lines....I want to have the notes to his songs coming up off the piano into the heavens.......so, is it ok to start with the first note at the farthest end of the piano and work backward to the piano.....(does that make sense to anyone) i want it to look as though the music is reaching out to the heavens, but that makes the notes look like they are backward....reading them from right to left then......did I manage to convey this right?
I am not musical so the notes in either direction would be the same to me, lol......

Sorry, I can not answer your questions but I wish you the best. The work you have already comes truly from a kind and loving heart. Bless you and him! He is already a great example to others.

If they are swirling, they can swirl back and forth and around in any direction ... so then you could get them all the right direction as they reach the sky.

What a challenge you have taken on to do the whole thing! We'll look forward to seeing your progress.

I think it is perfectly ok to start at the fartherest end of the piano and work backwards as long as the notes will make sense to the musically inclined as they read the notes and identify the tune. Sorry but music is not my forte, it's art. Maybe someone with musical finesse can be of help. It looks great what you have so far!! Let us see it when you're done! To resize a photo, you can go to http://www.resizr.com and upload your pic there and slide the bar to the size you want. You can also put it upright so we can see it better. Hope this helps and good luck with your quilt!! He will love it~!!

Hi and welcome! First off, I have to say your quilt is stunning!! How in the world did you get his face and hands to look so "real"? I am not sure I am getting your question, so forgive me if my answer doesn't help you...Can you start your notes at the piano, and then do a swirl of them up and around to the sky? Or even like a "tornado-y" shape, where you swirl them and maybe have the notes smaller at the piano and get larger as they go up to the heavens?? That way you may not get the backward look, or if they are swirling it won't matter...now I hope I am making sense. I did some searching, and here are a few links to some pics that may be of help:

Please post a pic when you do get the quilt finished...it truly is an amazing quilt, and the story behind it makes it even more special!
    Regards,
    Kif

I would not try to make the note convey any one song, only the essence of music. In that end you will need different types of notes, perhaps even overlapping some to convey rhythm, and I would not worry so much about which end of the keyboard, but where on the composition you want to place the notes to balance out the body of the musician. Or will the notes be over the whole background or foreground? I think composition is your main consideration here. So far the quilt is outstanding!

This is one awesome quilt and your talent is above to the heavens yourself. Sorry I cannot answer your question you have so much more talent than I and I'm sure no matter what you do it will be just wonderful.
