Default a quilt of appreciation

A few weeks ago, my brother was in a bicycle accident. He broke his jaw and was pretty banged up, but he is alive and he is healing and we are thankful. Since he lives in San Francisco, and my parents and I are in Arizona, one of his friends sat with him in the hospital all night (from 11pm-4:30am) and sent me & my mom updates on what was happening. She also was able to help him out over the next few days. Mom was at a loss as to how to express her gratitude (she's kind of attached to her kids and doesn't like it when we end up in the ER for some reason) and since my brother's friend isn't a flowers kind of girl, we decided I should make a lap quilt.

Despite some frustrations with the pattern (Marmalade Squares (Two!) from Moda Bake Shop) and a combination of my machine being about 5 years overdue for service with a deadline - this weekend - I'm pretty happy with how it came out. Still need to bind, but that can wait until tomorrow!

Fabric: solid white background and Hubba Hubba charm squares from Moda. Warm & White batting. Sulky Blendables brights to quilt with invisible thread for the bobbin. That stuff is ULTRA fine and doesn't like to stay threaded in the machine! Ultimate lesson: I should always have a solid plan for quilting before I start!

What a lovely quilt and a lovely thought. I'm sure she will love it, who wouldn't?
