What to do with Orphan blocks.

I have several (probably about 20 or more. They are not the same size. Many of them I did just to see if I could make the block. Could someone tell me what to do with blocks that are different sizes? I hate to throw them away but I can't see me making 20 or more pillows. Thanks in acvance.

Make a scrappy sampler quilt. Sash each block using your stash to get the blocks to a consistent size.

Yes, a sampler quilt would be good... except if you have some blocks that two together equals one (i.e., 2 8" (finished) blocks = 1 16" (finished) block), you won't need a sampler.

Graph paper works well for drafting this out.

Since you have some many, i would pile up all the same sizes together, and really assess what you have... and then grab the graph paper.

You might would want to group same sizes in one corner... then the next size in another corner... and so on... and only sash around the "grouping", rather than around each block.

Also, here's an older thread from here on the QB, that might give you some ideas as well...

It might be cool to try them together in a Gypsy Wife style quilt.

Add borders as needed to make them all the same size and make a sampler quilt.

How about using a wonky side to make them all the same size. Here's an example as shown on Bonnie Hunter's March 30th Quilt Cam. check it out.

Sampler quilt, table runner, placemats, pot holders, mug rugs, candle mats, tote bags, there are tons of projects to use individual or groups of blocks.

One of my quilt groups invite us to donate our orphan blocks. Some members then combine the orphan blocks into charity quilts. With several quilters donating the results have been gorgeous.
