i try not to buy anything fabric. i did buy some fleece at goodville in amish country, pa at 99 cents a yard. i make beds for shelter animals. that's a legitimate expense. and i bought thread from ct because i was running out.
i cut out parts for a batik turning twenty. i shopped my stash and my friend sue's. yay for me for once.

nancia, I want to see your quilt when it's done. You have such an eye for color. It sounds like you did well this month.

Nancia,
I am wondering what do you use for stuffing the animal beds? I have been saving all of my scraps, threads, clippings etc. and have a huge sackful that would make a neat bed but the vet place here says they want things that are easily washable and I think using this for stuffing, it would get all clumped up after washing the first time. Any suggestions or should I just toss it out?

i will do my best to post a picture. i cut it out after charting the cuts on paper. goofy me, i left the pattern at home! but once i drew it out i cut away! i'm not sure , judy , how this one is going to do. it has lots of colors so it may end up quite a mess. at any rate i will post pictures! this is the first time i will be making something to stay here, or i might send it to a natural disaster site--isn't that why we have natural disasters? so we have new homes for our quilts!
sandy-- i have the same concerns about the stuffing. so i fold the fleece into a Z, then sew the sides. this gives the animal 2 places it can crawl into, or it can lie on 3 thicknesses of fleece. i haven't made any for large dogs yet, but the ones i made first are quite popular with my cocker spaniels and cats. these will be going to the trenton animal control, which is also a shelter. i make them different sizes to fit into the cages. some i will just sew 3 or 4 good size pieces in a stack, and i also plan to make fleece blankets out of 2 large pieces of fleece for those animals that like to make nests. nothing fancy, but soft, comforting and washable!

I have sewn a large rectangle and stuffed it with tiny scraps. It gets washed weekly and I have had no clumping problems

I am seriously bummed. I just quilted a "left-over" quilt (made from swap blocks and stash) and now I do not have any fabric suitable for the binding. I have no black, no red, not enough brown, and the green is all the wrong shade. I REALLY wasn't going to go fabric shopping this week.

I feel your pain. I want a bigger belt for one of my vintage machines and that means a trip to the LQS. Am I strong enough to buy just the belt??

Foxflower: Since my willpower has been sadly missing this month, I probably was just projecting. In any case I am feeling a return of determination not to buy any fabric. I sure hope I am better in July than I was in June.
Nancia: What a worthwhile project. I am with Pat, I have successfully used scraps, very small, with no clumping. Anything larger than 2.5 inches square is kept for scrappy quilts, so everything used was smaller. That being said I totally understand that rules keep the shelters from having problems.
Martina & Irishrose: Good luck with you forays into the land of temptation. Just keep your eyes straight ahead and don't stop to feel the fabric.

The quilt shop was supposed to order the Labyrinth pattern for me, so I need to check on that. I do have all the fabrics for it in my stash. List: belt for 15 clone and a pattern, nothing else. Maybe I'll just take $15 with me - no more cash than that and no cards.
