Quilting is my passion also. If people want to call it a hobby, so be it. To me it is a form of art, self expression, even though we follow a pattern, we do contribute our own thought process as to placement, color, etc., so to me I am being an artist.

This is exactly where I am! It fits with the other sports I enjoy:tennis, cycling, running, etc. I'm a sports junkie (quilting included)!

YES, that's exactly how I feel. Even when I considered myself an interior seamstress (curtains, drapes, slipcovers, etc.). Many times I have been asked "Do you make clothes, can you fix some other piece of clothing". I say no, they have tailors for that. For me this is not a hobby, but I'm not sure what it is. Eventually I want it to be an occupation, but that is going to take some time.

I consider it my thread in keeping my sanity loosely intact  I don't worry what others think this is my world and they are only passing thru--- :-)

Hmmmm! Quilt making to our foremothers was not a "hobby" but a real neccesary part of their daily lives. They did it so their children and themselves would not die of the cold in the long winters they had to endure.
For most of us, we do it because we are carrying on a tradition. Is quilting a hobby? I suppose it is by definition but for me it is much more than that. I feel I am keeping a very special part of women's history alive and in doing so I am contributing my part to history!!!

Well, since the definition of "hobby" is an activity done regularly in one's leisure time for pleasure, yes - quilting is my hobby.

My husband always considered anything I did was for "fun". While I enjoy doing things and quilting it is also a lot of work. When he is doing something he likes to do he still calls it work. My grown kids just think of it as something mom does. I do consider a lot of the things we do as art.
