Cre8--you do good demo's. and yes, janstar, yours and i were/are a lot alike. and you talked me thru the scallops. everything i read said the seams on DJ (so those were, i assumed assembling the blocks, sashings, and tri's were suppose to be scant 1/4 inches) yes, and i see on the DJ site from brenda, i see she is telling to use 1" cut with a finished 1/2 in for the sashings between the blocks. for some reason, i must have missed that on my first jane, BUT i was H--L bent on getting her done, and it not being a UFO. i usually read whenever i was tired of sewing, so i just missed that completely. and i just got from the old thread, that the ladies were cutting sashings 1.5 with a l" finish. so that is what i did. when i started sewing my tri's onto the outer sashing (which i did use a finished 1/4") i took it slow to see if the tri's were going to line up with the blocks okay. they did with me using the 1.5 sashings. but for some reason i had difficulty with the kites alining and looking nice. but somehow, bluffed my way thru it.

Here is a finished pic of my G12. You can tell the two separate "star" pieces are approximately the same size. The top one that extends towards the corner triangle sections I made slightly longer and pointier. I traced the center bottom square-shape first curving it towards the center and then adjusted it for the top section. If this doesnt make sense let me know!

I'm gonna try to post pics as I continue to play catch up ["try" I make no promises!!] and in no particular order...

Here I have pics of my two latest blocks, H12 from the week of Dec 9 ....ahem simple applique and
I4... why I decided to work 'ahead' I don't know but I will at least share how I made it:
-cut 2 squares each of dark and light fabrics,
-draw a diagonal line on the light,
-put fabric squares right sides together and sew 1/4" seam on either side of diagonal line [remember to 'think inside the box'.... skootch close to the diagonal as you sew so that your seam allowance doesn't expand and the resultant half square triangle is the right size]
-cut on the drawn line
- press toward the dark

for the 'flying geese' in the middle of the sides I cut a 3 1/2" square of dark and [4] 2" squares of light and used the 'no-waste' method of making them [put 2 light squares at opposite corners-right sides together, draw diagonal through the white squares, etc... I've posted these instructions before and you can find them here:

for center, I cut a piece of freezer paper and used fabric marker to mark the curves on both the light and dark fabrics, center square is 2 3/4"

Last night's block is really really late!!! G1 from week of Oct 7! eeeek... at least it's done, right?
I did this one slightly differently - when I drew/traced my freezer paper on dull side, I tweeked the points of the petals so they would be pointier. In the picture you see the finished block and you can get an idea of how I made it. What I show on the right is what I cut off after I assembled the triangles. To start, I cut one square 5 1/2" of the light and dark fabrics and sliced them in half diagonally. Next I cut two rectangles of each color 2 x 5 1/2" .... matching the rectangle to the bottom edge of the triangle of opposite colors, I then traced my freezer paper pattern using fabric markers to the rectangles and matching triangle sections, leaving enough seam allowance. I used reverse applique, trimmed the excess out of the back [I actually trimmed the triangle parts off rectangle first]

One small note - most I did by hand, but then sewed the diagonals of the triangles together by machine. The points of the petals on two and the center didnt quite match as perfectly as I liked. When this happens, what I frequently do rather than redo everything over and over by machine... I remove the annoying 'off' part and do that carefully by hand. Much less aggravating!
[ATTACH=CONFIG]388632[/ATTACH]I now see I really should have switched the positions of the excess I cut off! that bottom white piece on the right I trimmed from the center right petal in the finished block [this was the bottom of that big triangle. The yellow 'petal' that is cut down on the right came from the yellow rectangle that now is the finished bottom of the triangle. Hope this makes sense! I also showed the freezer paper pattern on the top right.

Hello to all!
I hope they are well and happy!
I finished 5 MUF or UFO in 16 days and started working on a new list of 5 more.
I have too many tasks unfinished, so I SHOULD finish them!
I miss my weekly DJ blocks, but soon will return to them and more calmly that give the finished work!
