Thank you thimblebug6000, I thought I had asked but couldn't find the line, so I asked again.

Can you tell if the fabrics were once feedsacks? Some of the prints look like they might be.

NOT flyfoot. The squares at the end of each star leg say it is something else. I have seen it many times before, but have no idea of the name. I have a block of that in a signature wall hanging, but don't know who made the block.

That was the first name that popped in my mind, but the odd little plaid square throws it off.

I'm not sure what it is, but it's incredibly cute. Sometimes people just design their own blocks.

Could be. She liked it for sure. Some of the fabrics might be feedsacks. The quality of the different fabrics varied. She was definitely using and making do with what was available.

I just spotted what appears to be a tumbling block in the center of the top two squares (actually I can see at least two of them), the way the pieces are laid out it seems like the pattern may have gone askew in assembly?

It appears to me that the fabrics in this block are old. Possibly flour sacks. But what I really wanted to mention is that over the ages quilt patterns have be designed by people with a bit of imagination. This block could very well have been drawn by by the woman who sewed it.

I've got one pattern I designed for my own purpose. Very likely there's one quite similar somewhere. So, what I really wanted to say-----------don't sweat finding a name. Chart it for your records, name it after the woman who made it and enjoy.

That's good advice GrannieAnnie, that's what I'll tell my friend. She could have created it. It's pieced so funny.
