They are adorable. How about rice for inside or beans. That would work for those that are not really going to be used as pin cushions.

Darling!

How about using scraps of batting? Or are you wanting something "weighty?"

If for a pin cushion, I don't understand the beans, rice, etc ... could someone explain?

And in that same vein, popcorn would work well!
Batting they say in the years to come causes rust on the pins.Popcorn wouldn't hold up,no beans, rice maybe.Saw dust,i might have to check out what my DH has out in his shop.

I hadn't heard that about the batting before. Some have used steel wool, though I'd think it would break down and come out as dust thru the fabric. Which makes me wonder about the sand? Does it not do the same and dust out?

For all foodstuffs, I'd be leary of bugs, mice, etc. who may want a snack!!!! :)

Try using crushed walnut hulls for a filler. Or flax seed, or rice with a bay leaf in it too. Just ideas~

That's why i like sand,it's free.Yes the batting,i feel on my older pins at the tips.It takes years for that to happen, now my pincushion has sand in it.I don't fell any sand coming out.
