Auntyaya, that is a nice machine. It reminds me of the 99K. What is the bobbin set-up -- hook/race with horizontal drop-in? And I really like the center decal with the big 'S' as well as the hand wheel.

Vibrating shuttle bobbin. It is comparable to a 99 but for that.

Ah, I don't own a single vibrating shuttle machine. I feel so non-vintage. And so ignorant.

You're not alone. I own 2 VS machines but haven't tried using either of them yet. 1 is also a treadle machine. I don't own any hand crank machines either though I would like one. I find myself turning the wheel by hand a lot due to the control I have that way. No way I can stop precisely without turning by hand.

I actually find that an electric VS is kinda wierd, but i prefer the VS hand and treadle to a rotary

Not only weird they modified them in a way you can't go back to treadle some times.

Time you did then Rodney. The VS is a very very strong and capable machine. Mine goes through almost any fabric easily, and does buttonholes really well (with a 20th century buttonholer). It gets used a lot because it's always ready to go (treadle). No lifting it onto the table or unpacking anything. Another thing is that lovely double click sound as it works its magic, and of course it's beautiful to look at. What more encouragement do you need? Go try her out

Chiming in, VS machines do seem to be not quite right when they have tails. The reason, I've typed it twice and deleted because there was no way to say it that didn't seem naughty!

I find it interesting that this thread has shifted from mostly women to a mixture of men and women. Perhaps it's just my perspective since I am not on here much during the school year. Some of the other forums I belong to get snippy if you haven't "researched" as thoroughly as they think proper prior to asking a question. Thanks for not being that way folks!

And Rodney, you really must try a VS.
