My kittens are 11 months old. She is independent but he must be with me all the time. He, also, sucks on the thread that is in a tied quilt. He does it less in the last few weeks so he is growing up.

We adopted a 5-1/2 week old, Peaches, and she used to suck on my neck. She did it all her life whenever she was feeling insecure or frightened. I never chased her away but let her "nurse" as we called it. She died at 17 years and we miss her still.

I should have clarified that statement...she was 17 years old when she died and has been gone nearly five years. We now have a 7 year old dog, Rosie, adopted from PAWS, and two sweet cats; one 13 years old and the other a 'kitten' about 5 years old.

She might not have gotten enough sucking on her mom. My cat is 3 1/2 years old and still kneads and dry sucks on my lap. It drives me crazy.

Nope not weird, normal. I've had kittens and puppies who did similar things. My doxie was about 2-3 weeks when we brought her home from her momma, mom rejected her. I took over her care with feeding and she would suckle on my arm and when I would snuggle her in my neck she would suckel there. I would say it is part of a natural relfex and nurture.

Oh how precious, both the kitten and the baby! My daughter just lost her precious grey 11 year old cat and this one brought tears to my eyes.

I had one that use to suckle my hair. Up underneath in the back. I always had a wet chunk of hair. I had another who slept in my hair. He would knead and knead until he was happy with his nest and then curl up and sleep. If I rolled over during the night he had to go through the whole thing again when digging his claws into my head to hold it still didn't work. LOL good thing he was tiny and the guy he went to had no hair to speak of.

I raised my Calico Gracie, on a bottle after her mom died. She was only about 3 wks. old & would try to nurse at the short hairs on the back of my neck. She loved her bottle & put her "hands" around it like a baby does. She's almost 7 & is rotten!

Perfectly normal. Try a small sherpa blanket. Sometimes they will suck on that. Adorable kitten :-D
